What is the program about?

This course is designed to introduce you to the practical aspects of directing scenes and plays. It will help you build confidence by applying essential directing tools and techniques. To support your development as an aspiring director, you will also participate as an actor in some scenes—no prior acting experience is required.

You will gain knowledge of the specific requirements for directing. The course will also provide an opportunity to explore the director-actor relationship and the rehearsal process in depth.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Understand how to block (shape) a scene through practical exercises.

  • Grasp character motivation, the use of actions and units, and integrate these concepts into your directing.

  • Work on and adapt a variety of plays.

Final Project

Students are required to create a detailed 'explanation book.' This book typically contains an in-depth analysis and interpretation of a play, including directorial concepts, character motivations, scene breakdowns, and production notes. It’s a key tool for directors to clearly communicate their vision to the performers and the production team during the staging process.

Experienced directors will teach you how to plan, direct, edit, and market your own stories.
